of the staff members had an acquaintance that was a tailor master. The master
had a cat as a pet, and hearing that she was very familiar with cat’s body
shape, I decided to ask her to make the costumes. However, making clothes for
humans is different from making clothes for kittens that are very small; the
lower sleeve edge for example, has only 2.5cms of diameter and sewing machines
can not be used. Almost all work is hand sewn, and it takes about 7 days to
make one costume. In addition, the size and the design of the costumes change
every shooting which becomes a very hard work. From school uniform to leather
jacket, nurse uniform, there were dozens of types of costumes, and according
to the growth of the kittens it has to be made two different sizes (large and
small) of the same costume design. The costumes of the “Namen nayo” Cats were
made by 3 people, with the master in the center, and 2 other women that knew
sewing. However, the work would continue every day until late at night. Just
to have an idea, costumes that involve an immense amount of time to be required,
like one leather jacket cost about 150,000 Yen. Kittens’ costumes have a special
artifice. In order to make it easier to put it on, there is a fa stener
that goes from the back to the tail in order to open widely. Also, for the
backing fabric it is used a material that is easy to slide. And the fabric
used can not be the ordinary ones, because it is too thick and it makes it
look bulky and unnatural. For that reason it has to be used a fabric that is
