Tsuda rescued the four kittens from their abandonment by a local dry cleaner, and named one kitten after the shop, Matakichi, without realizing he had named the girl kitten a boy's name. The rest of the kittens were simply named: the calico kitten was named Mikeko, the kitten with the black nose was Higeta, and the kitten always meowing was named Nyanta.
